A superb Apeda studio photograph of Jack Dempsey in fight stance, signed boldly in black ink "To Harry Bartell, Best Wishes for the Red Lion Tavern, Jack Dempsey". The 10 x 8 photo is in good condition; several creases, most notably a vertical example that runs down the middle of the image. Two edge tears measuring approximately 1 and 2 cm.
The photo was signed for former baseball player Harry Bartell and displayed in his restaurant, The Red Lion tavern. Included is a letter of provenance from Harry's son, Dick Bartell, who inherited the photo upon his fathers passing. Dick was also a MLB player, playing eight seasons with the New York Giants. A lovely association piece and beautiful autograph of The Manassa Mauler.
