Autographed letter, written in entirety by Jack Dempsey to a Mr Enright on May 5, 1922. Dempsey was in Paris at the time and wrote the letter across one side of Claridge's Hotel letterhead. The full letters reads: "Dear Mr Enright, Just a quick line to thank you for your kindness to me by sending me your card. We are having a great time but hope to be back home soon. Hoping to have the pleasure of meeting you personally in the near future, once more I thank you. I remain yours sincerely, Jack Dempsey."
Dempsey was the Heavyweight Champion of the World at the time he penned the letter, having defeated Jess Willard to win the crown in 1919. He had made a third defense of the title against France's own Georges Carpentier ten months earlier, knocking out the popular Light Heavyweight Champ inside four rounds. The condition is excellent for nearly 100 years old. Four sides of paper, with just the first written on. The letter has previously been folded once each way. A couple of minor spots of soiling and age toning to the paper in places. No tears.
