A rare full on-site ticket from 1892 bout between 10-year reigning heavyweight champion John L. Sullivan and James J. Corbett. More than just a heavyweight title fight, the contest signaled the end of the bare-knuckle era and marked the introduction of the Queensbury rules, which required heavyweight fighters to wear gloves. The younger Corbett, outweighed by 34 pounds entering the showdown, would eventually knock out the grizzled Sullivan in the 21st round at the Olympic Club in New Orleans.
This original 3.25" x 4.25" ticket is printed on thick cardboard. The ticket remains in excellent condition for its age, with expected age toning. Three holes punched upon entry to the venue are present in the lower right corner. The rounded corners of the ticket remain good. One of the better examples of this rare ticket. An iconic piece of boxing history and a must have in any ticket collection.
