Tommy Burns (Noah Brusso) signed real-photo postcard
An early 20th century real-photo postcard of former heavyweight champion Tommy Burns signed in black ink. The image was taken by the Charles Kerry photographic studio of Australia (1885-1917). Burns is the only Canadian-born World heavyweight Champion in history. He was the first to travel the globe in defending his title, making 11 defenses despite often being the underdog due to his inferior size. Burns famously challenged all comers as Champion, leading to his celebrated contest and ultimate defeat against Jack Johnson. Measures approximately 3 1/2" x 5 1/2". In VG-EX condition with faint corner indentations from previously being housed in an album. A couple of moisture spots towards the top of the image. Lovely, bold signature.
