Very rare original 1883 Currier & Ives hand colored stone lithograph. The full (medium folio) sheet measures 17 1/2" by 21 1/2". The area of the image is about 12” by 15” The lithograph was shape matted a long time ago and the matt is affixed to the front surface of the lithograph. The piece is titled “John L. Sullivan / Champion Pugilist of the World".
Condition: fair/good. There is a tiny tear visible at the lower left hand edge of the matt opening but when viewed from the back, that tear is more extensive (see fifth photo). Significant age toning throughout. The matting is starting to crack in several places along the bottom (see photo three) and is coming loose from the sheet. This will need to be re-affixed or professionally replaced.
