We are delighted to offer Peter Kane's original 1938 Flyweight World Championship belt awarded to him by The Ring Magazine in 1938. Kane defeated American Jackie Jurich on September 22nd at Anfield Stadium, dropping him five times on route to a dominant points victory. The stunning belt features three gilt metal medallions connected by chains and mounted on a traditional red, white, blue belt with gold welt and buckles. The center medallion surmounted by an eagle and the national flags on both fighters, and engraved below "The Ring Magazine Award World Flyweight Championship won by Peter Kane"; the left medallion recording that Kane defeated Jackie Jurich, the right recording that the fight took place in Liverpool, England, Sept 22, 1938. It measures 7 x 33 inches and has wear and tarnishing consistent with it's age. There appears to be sweat stains to the belt and four of the six connecting chains are broken. A superb relic that would form the centerpiece of any British boxing collection.
The belt was originally consigned by the heirs of Peter Kane to Sotheby's New York sale 6278, February 29, 1992 (lot 131) and was sold to Jim and Theresa Earle. Then acquired by us from the estate of Jim and Theresa Earle.
