On 26th June 1976, Muhammad Ali fought Japanese professional wrestler Antonio Inoki at the Nipon Budokan Arena in Tokyo; the mixed martial arts contest was the most bizarre fight of Ali's career. It pitted the Heavyweight Champion of the World against a Japanese wrestler. What was supposed to be a staged exhibition somehow morphed into a real fight. Ali sustained such serious leg injuries from Inoki's kicks, which affected his footwork for the rest of his career. As a result of their sharing the ring, Ali and Inoki became lifelong friends, with the latter converting to Islam.
Offered here is a scarce British closed circuit poster. The large format poster measures 30 x 40 inches. Very good condition for its age and size; light wrinkles/handling creases throughout and edge wear, including a few small tears. Due to their size, many of these posters were destroyed or severely damaged - this poster presents as a noteworthy exception. Also featured on the poster are Andre The Giant and Check Wepner, who were fighting a mixed-martial arts contest in New York on the same night; also present is the legendary wrestling Champion, Bruno Sammartino.
