A typed letter sent from Muhammad Ali to a fan in Newcastle, England. Comes with the original mailing envelope, postmarked September 10, 1974. Signed in black ballpoint at the bottom by Ali. It was sent just two weeks before the original date (25th September) for Ali's Heavyweight Title fight with George Foreman in Zaire. The fight was subsequently delayed until October 30th due to a facial cut sustained by Foreman in training.
The letter features brilliant content with Ali informing his British pen pal "I feel good now. I'm in good shape and razor sharp." He then makes a historic prediction which couldn't have turned out more true .... "In case you are apprehensive regarding my upcoming fight, let me inform you that this is going to be the prettiest, most masterful upset that boxing has ever seen. I guarantee this and couldn't be more serious." How right the great man was! The 32 year old came in a huge underdog against the undefeated, heavy hitting Foreman who was seven years his junior. Ali deployed the surprise 'rope-a-dope' tactic and turned the tide on his exhausted opponent, knocking out the heavily favored Champion in the 8th round.
A highly desirable letter sent by Ali just one month prior to "The Rumble in the Jungle", which provides a fascinating insight into his mindset and internal belief heading into the Championship fight. VG condition with original mailing folds and handling creases throughout. The autograph has lightened a shade but is still a solid example.
