A Max Schmeling real-photo postcard signed in blue ink to the lower front side. A choice image and signature of the Black Uhlan of the Rhine. Schmeling was Heavyweight Champion of the World between 1930 and 1932. His two fights with Joe Louis in 1936 and 1938 were worldwide cultural events because of their national associations. In 1936 Schmeling knocked out Louis, placing him as the number one contender for Jim Braddock's title. However it was who Louis got the fight and defeated Braddock to win the Championship. Schmeling finally got a chance to regain his title in 1938, but Louis famously knocked him out in the first round. The 3.5" x 5.5" postcard is in very good condition. There's paper residue on the back from when it was removed from an album page. The front is unaffected and appears EX.
