1887 Allen & Ginter 'World's Champions' boxing album pages w. John L Sullivan
Two beautiful original lithographed pages from the classic Allen & Ginter World's Champions album (A16) - featuring eight of the era's top bare-knuckle pugilists, all champions in their own right. The first page features Jake Kilrain, Joe Lannon, Jem Smith and Ike Weir. The second page features the legendary John L. Sullivan alongside as Charley Mitchell, Jack McAuliffe and Jimmie Carney. The 19th century boxers and ballplayers depicted in the set are by far the most desirable of the champions honored in the A&G albums, and each page truly exemplifies the pinnacle of American lithographic art. This culminates in one of the most beautiful card issues ever produced. The pages have been professionally trimmed to remove the border with the holes punched in it. Both pages measures approximately 5.25 x 7.25". Generally in excellent shape for their age. The Kilrain page has some minor surface paper loss to the right edge. The Sullivan page has a couple of diagonal abrasions to the front and some staining verso.
