Offered here are a pair of Archie Moore's fight worn gloves. The 8oz Seyer gloves were used by Archie in one of his professional fights. The gloves exhibit significant use. The original laces remain in the left hand glove but are missing from the right hand. Both gloves have been autographed by Moore who added that they were used in his 1957 fight with Tony Anthony. Our subsequent research has shown that these were not used in the Anthony fight as both fighters wore Benlee gloves. We were believe they were used in either his fight against Alejandro Lavorante or his bout with Cassius Clay (both took place in 1962). Close study of photos from his career show that this exact style of Seyer glove were used in both of those fights (see images). Although Archie stated that they were used in the Anthony fight, it's not surprising that he would have difficulty remembering the exact fight some 35 years later. Inside each glove there are vintage pen markings labelling them "AM". This is a very rare opportunity to acquire fight worn gloves from one of the all time Light-Heavyweight greats.
Provenance: The gloves were originally purchased from Archie Moore - along with the shorts and robe we also have - by Marty Jacobs of the Sands Hotel Boxing Museum in Las Vegas. They were then purchased from Jacobs by Bob Case in 1985 (Bob is the former Vice-President of the International Boxing Association). He personally took the gloves to Archie Moore who told him they were from the Tony Anthony fight and autographed them saying as much. Included with the gloves is an original hand written letter of provenance from Bob Case, dated 8/19/1992.
