A Max Schmeling real-photo postcard signed in black ink to the lower front side. A choice image and signature of the Black Uhlan of the Rhine. Schmeling was Heavyweight Champion of the World between 1930 and 1932. His two fights with Joe Louis in 1936 and 1938 were worldwide cultural events because of their national associations. In 1936 Schmeling knocked out Louis, placing him as the number one contender for Jim Braddock's title. However it was who Louis got the fight and defeated Braddock to win the Championship. Schmeling finally got a chance to regain his title in 1938, but Louis famously knocked him out in the first round. Dimensions are 3.5" x 5.5". Very good condition. Minor wear to the corners and slight age toning throughout. There is a little softening to the right edge, including a couple of tiny tears.
