A lovely 8" x 10" studio photograph of Heavyweight legend James J. Corbett. The photograph has been neatly inscribed and signed "To Tom Tabacock, With best regards, Your friend, Jas J Corbett". The original sepia tone image is by Apeda of New York. In VG-EX condition for its age. Small corner crease to the top right corner. The photo was previously removed from an album and has circular glue stains to the back. A couple of small areas of the glue show through on the front side. A fine image and autograph of the former Champ.
Corbett defeated champion John L. Sullivan in 1892 in a 21-round decision in New Orleans in the first championship bout using the Marquis of Queensberry rules. He lost the title to Bob Fitzsimmons in a 14-round decision in Carson City, Nevada in 1897.
