A stunning original trophy awarded to Cuban boxing legend Teofilo Stevenson after his victory in the Heavyweight category at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Stevenson is one of only three boxers in history to win three Olympic boxing gold medals (1972, 1976 & 1980). He also won three golds at the World Amateur Championships and the Pan American Games. He has often been referred to as Cuba's greatest ever boxer and at one stage was their most recognisable figure after Fidel Castro.
The impressive trophy stands around 38" in height and sits upon a wooden base measuring 10" x 10". The base has a bronze plaque that reads "Montreal 1976 XX1 Olympiad Heavyweight Boxing Champion Teofilo Stevenson". A three tiered design is connected by four intricately designed metallic columns. On top of this, four eagles surround a final column, atop which an angel stands. A detailed and beautiful trophy which is equally impressive in it's size and design. The trophy was displayed for many years in the famous 'Museo de la revolution' in Habana, Cuba. It comes in it's original travel box (in fair condition) which has the museum's address sticker on it.
The trophy presents in very good condition with expected wear in places. There's a small crack to one corner of the top wooden platform.
