1888 John L. Sullivan silk Stevengraph
A scarce antique Stevengraph of the great boxer John L Sullivan. Stevengraphs were nineteenth century images woven in pure silk and were produced by Thomas Stevens of Coventry, England. This particular series was produced in 1888. Measures 5.5" x 7.5" including the gold colored wooden frame. Framed with glass to the rear as well, enabling Sullivan's biography to be read. There is a crack across the glass on the back side. The Stevengraph itself is one of the best examples we've seen. The border is relatively clean and the silk image appears near mint. Please note that there is some reflection on the glass - the white wording across the lower border is not on the Stevengraph.
