A pair of cream colored Lonsdale boxing shorts worn by Muhammad Ali at the 'Ladbroke Muhammad Ali Show' in Birmingham, England on the 7th June 1979. The event was billed as Ali's final ring appearance in the UK after he retired as the Heavyweight World Champion in 1979. He subsequently came out of retirement for two unsuccessful fights in 1980 before permanently hanging up his gloves. During the event Ali boxed an exhibition with Jimmy Ellis, demonstrated his training routine and took questions from the audience. The shorts have a red 'Ladbrokes' logo stitched across the bottom of each leg. Ali has signed them "To Leslie Ward from Muhammad Ali" and added the inscription "Three time Heavyweight Champion of the World. June 8th 1979. Enjoy life, it's later than we think". A very desirable large signature and inscription with doodle. The trunks show slight age toning but remain in very good condition with no holes or tears. Also included is an original program from the event. We have uploaded photos of Ali at the event, including three showing him wearing the shorts (courtesy Mirrorpix.com).
