A very rare boxing silk commemorating what was billed as the "10 Stone Championship of the World" between Harry Nickless and Bill Hatcher; in truth, the contest was for the Championship of Great Britain. Nickless prevailed by 9th round KO. The silk measures approximately 35 x 33 inches. Excellent condition for its age, with fold lines and a couple of spots of faint staining.
“Cast Iron” Harry Nickless was a quick and scrappy fighter who held the 10 Stone championship of Britain during his career. He defeated such men as Johnny Robinson, Bill Hatcher, Jem Sullivan, Alf Suffolk, Jem Townsend and George Baxter. Nickless is reported to have been placed in a mental home in the late 1890's, quite possibly as a result of damage sustained during his career.
