A scarce signed letter by legendary boxing trainer, Billy Delaney. One page, signed at the conclusion, "Yours truly, William Delaney". The body of the letter was penned in another hand on Delaney's behalf. Delaney writes to Jas E. Cunliff - the inventor of a punch bag that he'd just used at the Rochester Athletic Club - and gives a glowing report. He declares that the bag "is far superior to any drum I have ever used" and "every gymnasium to be complete should have one". At the time of the letter, Delaney was travelling with James J. Corbett in the play 'Gentleman Jack'. VG condition; a couple of water spots have caused smudging. Delaney's handwriting is unaffected.
Billy Delaney was a former boxer and the trainer of several champions during his service to the sport; counting such men as James Corbett and James Jeffries among his prized pupils.
