On September 25th 1927 World Heavyweight Champion Gene Tunney met former titleholder Jack Dempsey in a highly anticipated rematch. The fight was held at Chicago's Soldier Field and drew a staggering gate of $2,658,660. It was the first $1 million gate in entertainment history. Tunney retained his crown by a unanimous points decision. The fight infamously became known as the 'Long Count' due to the events that pertained in the seventh round. Dempsey dropped Tunney (for the first time in his career) with a ferocious combination. Dempsey ignored the referee's initial order to retreat to a neutral corner and the subsequent delay bought Tunney, who eventually rose at the count of nine, precious extra time. Many believe Tunney would have been counted out had Dempsey followed instructions.
Offered here is a scarce on-site program from Soldier's Field. About VG-EX for it's age. There is a light center fold and moderate handling wear. 1/2 cm split at the bottom of the spine. Expected age toning to the paper and a little soiling in places. A very solid example of this important program.
