A Cleto Reyes 10oz left handed professional glove worn by 'The Dark Destroyer' Nigel Benn in his 9th November 1996 rematch with Steve Collins. By this stage in his career Benn was past his best, having survived several grueling wars. He was retired on his stool at the end of the fifth round after taking some big shots from Collins. Benn announced his retirement from the sport immediately after the contest. His final career record was 42 (35 KO)-5-1.
The glove has been photo matched with images from the fight. It has the "Hencho en Mexico" logo on the outside. It is red throughout with the exception of the white inner thumb. There are still tape remnants around the wrist. The laces were cut after the fight. Nigel Benn's initials can just be seen scribbled in faint ink on the wrist label. We acquired the glove from the original owner, who was in attendance at the fight. It comes with a signed letter from him explaining how Nigel Benn tossed his gloves into the crowd after the fight - this can be seen in footage of the night.
